Transition

Our transition program held in November and December is a gentle introduction to primary school activities and enables the children to feel confident and comfortable when starting school.  St Mary’s sends out information to the kindergartens around October informing the dates and times of transition. The new foundation children are paired up with a grade six child as their school buddy. During transition the little children are introduced to their year six buddy. The year sixes take on this role very seriously and look out for the foundation children as they start school and until they feel comfortable to play on their own with their own friends.

Testimonials From Parents of Previous Foundation Children:

"We believe that the intimate class and the purpose-built foundation room assisted our child to feel comfortable."

"The space has areas for inquiry and play and is a place where my child feels at home. My daughter is always excited to engage in the beautiful evolving spaces that Ashley puts together."

"The wider school community - including students, parents and staff- have been welcoming and friendly. St. Mary's really does feel like one big family."

"Everyone seems to care about one another, and I feel so comfortable knowing that someone will always be looking out for my daughter."

"From personal experience, I know that the school places a high priority on supporting those with individual learning needs, which is so important."

"The transition from preschool to big school was an exciting but also a slightly daunting thought for both my child and for us as parents.  From the beginning St Mary’s has made our child feel important but also has been so welcoming to us and even our extended family who help out with the drop offs and pick-ups."

St Mary's Primary School acknowledges the Minjambuta people as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school is situated. We recognise the continuing connection of the people of the Dhudhuroa and Waywurru Nations to land, water and community. This land we share is sacred, this land is a gift, this land is thousands of years old.
